Massachusetts is situated in north eastern part which is in New England. Its border in south are Connecticut and Rhode Island, in north Vermont and New Hampshire, New York borders the western part whereas to its east is the Atlantic Ocean. Massachusetts is ranked as the seventh least extensive however it is ranked as the fourteenth most populated state in U.S. and the most populated among the 6 New England states. Also it is ranked as the third most densely populated state. It is known to have the 6th highest GDP per capita in the United States of America.

There is couple of metro regions known as Boston metropolitan area in the east and Springfield metropolitan area in the west. 2/3rd of the population of Massachusetts resides in Greater Boston which is mostly urban or suburban areas. An urban region in the western part of the state called as the “Knowledge Corridor” which is along the Connecticut River has a mixture of college, rural and town area

The state of Massachusetts has a noteworthy cultural, commercial and historical role in the history of the Americans. Around the eighteenth century, Boston was called as the Cradle of Liberty because in Boston only confrontation began for the independence of U.S. from England which gave rise to the American Revolution. Massachusetts was the 1st state in United State to allow legal marriage of the same sex in the year 2004. This was a Supreme Judicial Court’s decision. Politicians like the Kennedy family and Adams family were from this state.

Boston is the capital as well as the largest city in Massachusetts. There are fifty cities and three hundred towns in the state which are grouped into fourteen counties. There are 11 communities who have named themselves as ‘towns’ are lawfully cities as they have exchanged the town meeting which is a form of government for a mayor council or manager council form
