Washington is situated in the north western part of the Pacific in U.S. It is bordered by Idaho in west and British of Columbia of Canada in south, flanked by the Pacific Ocean. It joined the union on eleventh November in the year 1889. It was the forty second state to join the state. It is ranked as the eighteenth largest state and thirteenth most populated state among all the states of U.S. Its population around sixty percent is mostly in the metro area of Seattle. It is a hub of industries, businesses and transportations. Washington follows California as the most populated state in the western coastal area and in the western part of U.S.

It got its name from the 1st President of U.S. George Washington. Apart from Washington no other state has been given a president’s name. The capital of Washington is Washington D.C. Before it was known as ‘Columbia’ but not to confuse with Columbian District it was given the name Washington.

Mounts and peaks in Cascade ranges are geographically spread in the north south direction dividing the Washington State. The western part of the Cascade Range has thick coniferous forests. It usually has dry summers and coastal climate with wet winter along with spring and autumn. Mountains in this range have many volcanoes like Mount Adams, Glacier Peak, and Mount St. Helen out of which Mount St. Helen is an active volcano.

Washington consists of thirty nine counties in the United States of America. Its FIPS code is fifty three.
It also leads in the production of lumber. Washington is ranked as first in production of apples, pears, sweet cherries, lentils, potatoes. It also has high ranking in case of grapes, apricots, and peppermint oil. The state is said to have more than thousand dams. This includes the dam Grand Coulee; it was made for various uses like power, water storage, control of flood and proper irrigation.
