Wisconsin is a section of the mid west and Great Lakes area and is situated in the north central part of U.S. It shares a border with Iowa in southwest, Michigan Lake in east and Superior Lake in north, Minnesota in west and Illinois in south. It joined the union on twenty ninth of May in the year 1848. It was the thirtieth state to join the union. The state is named ‘Wisconsin’ after the River Wisconsin. It was named by the one of the American Indians tribes (speaking Algonquian tongue).

It is ranked as the twentieth most populated state and twenty third as the largest state among all the fifty states of U.S. Madison is the capital of the state and Milwaukee is the largest city in Wisconsin. It has diversity in cultures and landscape. In north are the lowlands forming besides Superior Lake and in south are the highlands. These highlands consist of coniferous forests. Timms Hill which is the point of Wisconsin falls in these highlands. Also these highlands have many glacier lakes and the known Chequamegon Nicolet national forest. The center of the state is occupied by excellent farms and is also known for some significant formations of sandstone such as the ‘Dells’ of the River Wisconsin.

Wisconsin consists of seventy two counties in United States of America. FIPS Code of Wisconsin is fifty five. This code i.e. Federal Information Processing Standard code for every county is linked with the census figures for that particular county. These counties are governed by county boards. These boards are directed by the presiding officer i.e. chairperson. County with or more than five hundred thousand residents have executives also for the county. For small county, administrator or executive are appointed. As per the report of 2009 around 11 counties have executives.
