Missouri is situated in the Midwestern part of the United States of America. The state of Missouri like Tennessee is bordered by eight different states.  Missouri is bordered by Iowa on north and to the east are Illinois, Tennessee and Kentucky. Arkansas borders on south and Oklahoma, Kansas and Nebraska border the west of the state. The Mississippi River and the Missouri River are the largest rivers which form the boundary for the eastern part of Missouri; also they connect the largest metropolitan cities i.e. St. Louis and Kansas City. As per the 2010 census the population of Missouri is 5,988,927 making it the eighteenth most populated state in U.S. and 5th most populated state in the Midwest. It has a mixture of rural and urban cultures.

Missouri has 114 counties and St. Louis., it is an independent city. The city of St. Louis is only one hundred and sixty km but is densely populated i.e. 5.724/square miles. As per the estimation of 2008 St. Louis County is the largest county by population of around 991,830 people followed by Jackson County with 668,417 people. 3rd is St. Louis with 354,361 and 4th is St. Charles with 349,407. For Worth County it is 2,039, the least populated county in Missouri.

Springfield, Columbia, St. Louis, Independence and Kansas are the largest cities in Missouri. Jefferson City is the capital of Missouri. It was purchased as a part of the Louisiana Purchase from France and called it as the Missouri Territory. Some of its territory joined the union as the twenty fourth state in the year 1821, Aug 10. Branson which is in the Ozarks of southwest of the state is known for attracting tourist and is thus a tourism spot. In the year 2005 the state had 16,695,000 tourists visiting its national parks and other areas.
