kentucky County Map

Here is the Kentucky counties map. Altogether there are 120 counties in the state of Kentucky, a state located in the East Central United States of America. Though it as a part of Virginia initially, Kentucky in 1972, came on its own as the 15th state to join the United States.

The Pike County is the largest county in Kentucky measuring 788 square miles or 2041 square kilometers. In the year 1891, the Kentucky Constitution created the following limits on the creation of a new county:

  •  A new county must have a land area of must have a land area of at least 400 square miles (1,000 km2);
  • must have a population of at least 12,000 people;
  •  must not by its formation decrease the land area of an existing county to less than 400 square miles (1,000 km2);
  •  must not by its creation decrease the populace of an existing county to fewer than 12,000 people;
  •  must not create a county boundary line that passes within 10 miles (16 km) of an existing county seat.
